COVID exceptions for Medicaid expire in May

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government declared a Public Health Emergency (PHE).

This allowed the federal government to make exceptions for some requirements of the Medicaid and CHIP programs.

As part of the public health emergency, states could not remove anyone who was validly enrolled in Medicaid by March 18, 2020, unless that person:

• Moved out of state
• Died
• Requested to be removed

In January, the government announced the public health emergency for COVID-19 will end on May 11, 2023.

This means some Medicaid beneficiaries may be required to re-enroll after May 11, 2023.

What should you do?

In Mississippi, it is very important that Medicaid beneficiaries keep their addresses and contact information up to date with the Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM). If you are affected, this is how you can make sure you receive notices and information on how to reapply.

Medicaid-eligible beneficiaries can update their addresses and contact information by contacting their local Medicaid Regional Office or by visiting www.medicaid.ms.gov.
